Approached by Managing Director, Michael Williams, to market the musical Tiger Bay, produced in conjunction with the Wales Millennium Centre, resulting in the production playing to sold-out houses in the Artscape Opera House, a 1 487-seater theatre. The Implementation of an e.marketing system and consolidation of databases, streamlined communication with audiences, supporters and donors.

PIETER TOERIEN PRODUCTIONS AT THEATRE ON THE BAY

Theatres | Performing Arts Venues

Generated millions of rands in income, and filled hundreds of thousands of theatre seats.


The portfolio included strategic planning in conjunction with Pieter Toerien on production dates, seating plans and pricing. Oversight of the content management system, which involved producing all of the content for the website and advising on its structure and design. All material required for traditional, new and social media. Engagement with media, producers, corporate clients and the public on a daily basis. Close collaboration with ticketing agent, Computicket and Theatre on the Bay and Artscape Box Offices. All direct marketing material on which the success of the many productions we worked on depended. Mentorship and training.


Marketing of productions, event venues and restaurant at Theatre on the Bay (256 seats), with an average of 6 performances per week throughout the year. Marketing of productions presented by Pieter Toerien at Artscape (1 487 seats), e.g CATS, The Phantom of the Opera,  STOMP, The Imperial Ice Stars, Dirty Dancing, EVITA, Singing In The Rain, the Sound of Music, with an average of 7 performances for seasons of between 4 and 8 weeks.

Senior Account Executive, Client Services

Management of four staff members. Strategy and implementation of new structures within the department maximised the service offered to clients. Serviced all clients with regard to ticketing requirements. Implementation of these needs to the satisfaction and benefit of the clients resulted in lasting relationships for Computicket. Liaison with all departments that affected service offered to clients, i.e. the Call Centre, Retail, IT and Advertising.

Audience Development and Publicity Manager

Generated substantial income through marketing and publicity for all theatres in the complex - the Mandela, the People’s, the Lesedi and space.com - a total of 1 675 seats, with an average of 6 performances per theatre per week throughout the year.

                                                                                  

Created departments that did not exist at the time, which included employing and training 12 staff members and 2 interns. Marketing and publicity strategies that were implemented created a sustainable, loyal audience for the theatre complex and created excellent, lasting relationships with the media. Managed outreach programme that brought historically disadvantaged youth to the theatre.
